Superconductors are one important engineering application. A superconductor material can conduct electricity or transport electrons from one atom to another with no resistance. The [course_title] course teaches the generation of large-scale and intense magnetic fields with a particular focus on superconductors. Topics include electromagnetic theory, magnet design and operational issues, magnet instabilities, ac losses and mechanical disturbances, quench and protection, experimental techniques, and cryogenics, etc. You will also learn about the new high-temperature superconductors for magnets.
Assessment
This course does not involve any written exams. Students need to answer 5 assignment questions to complete the course, the answers will be in the form of written work in pdf or word. Students can write the answers in their own time. Each answer needs to be 200 words (1 Page). Once the answers are submitted, the tutor will check and assess the work.
