Thermodynamics is the branch of physical science that deals with the relations between heat, temperature and other forms of energy. In short, thermodynamics deals with all forms of energy covering mechanical, electrical, or chemical energy.

The [course_title] course explains the fundamentals of thermodynamics. You will learn about the analysis of energy conversion in thermomechanical, thermochemical, electrochemical, and photoelectric processes. The course illustrated these processes and taught you how these processes would be used in existing and future power and transportation systems, with emphasis on efficiency, environmental impact and performance.

Other topics included in the course are systems utilising fossil fuels, hydrogen, nuclear and renewable resources, fuel reforming, hydrogen and synthetic fuel production, fuel cells and batteries, combustion, hybrids, catalysis, supercritical and combined cycles, photovoltaics, etc. Apart from these, the course explains different forms of energy storage and transmission, and optimal source utilisation and fuel-life cycle analysis.

Assessment

This course does not involve any written exams. Students need to answer 5 assignment questions to complete the course, the answers will be in the form of written work in pdf or word. Students can write the answers in their own time. Each answer needs to be 200 words (1 Page). Once the answers are submitted, the tutor will check and assess the work.
