The [course_title] course focuses all the essential areas of molecular biosignatures including their pathways of lipid biosynthesis, and the distribution patterns of lipid biosynthetic pathways from phylogeny and physiology point of view. You will learn to analyse the recent literature on chemical fossils. The occurrence of molecular fossils through the geological record will be explained. Other topics covered in the course are isotopic contents, occurrence in modern organisms and environments, diagenetic pathways, analytical techniques, etc.
You are required to know the basic knowledge of organic chemistry.
Assessment
This course does not involve any written exams. Students need to answer 5 assignment questions to complete the course, the answers will be in the form of written work in pdf or word. Students can write the answers in their own time. Each answer needs to be 200 words (1 Page). Once the answers are submitted, the tutor will check and assess the work.
