The large-scale circulation systems of the tropical atmosphere and analyses the dynamics of such systems will be focused in the [course_title] course. Concepts include Radiative-Convective Equilibrium, the Zonally-Averaged Circulation, Asymmetric Steady Circulations, Interannual Fluctuations of the Walker Circulation – ENSO, Intraseasonal Oscillations, Higher Frequency Disturbances and Tropical Cyclones. You will learn about the Hadley and Walker circulation, monsoons, tropical boundary layers, theory of the response of the tropical atmosphere to localised sea-surface temperature anomalies; equatorial waves; easterly waves; etc.
Assessment
This course does not involve any written exams. Students need to answer 5 assignment questions to complete the course, the answers will be in the form of written work in pdf or word. Students can write the answers in their own time. Each answer needs to be 200 words (1 Page). Once the answers are submitted, the tutor will check and assess the work.
