This series of six lectures introduces six plays from the Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre. Each lecture outlines the play so there is no assumption you have already read it. You will understand its historical context and dramatic legacy, drawing parallels with modern film and contemporary culture. The series include a riposte to Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, Tis Pity She’s a Whore, The Witch of Edmonton, A Chaste Maid in Cheapside, The Alchemist etc.
This course does not involve any written exams. Students need to answer 5 assignment questions to complete the course, the answers will be in the form of written work in pdf or word. Students can write the answers in their own time. Each answer needs to be 200 words (1 Page). Once the answers are submitted, the tutor will check and assess the work.
