The [course_title] course covers an interdisciplinary study of video games as texts from the cultural, educational, and social point of view in the contemporary settings.
In the course, you will learn about digital environments, games, Cybertexts, unwritten rules, cheating procedures in games, Immersion, agency, etc. The course also focuses on the types of players such as motivational players, Causal v. Hardcore. Apart from these, the course includes discussion on identity building, identity construction, Games Aesthetics, Fictional world, simulations, Games and Violence and more. By reading the contemporary literature about video games and by playing and analysing games, you will learn the practical knowledge about video games. No prior programming knowledge necessary.
Assessment
This course does not involve any written exams. Students need to answer 5 assignment questions to complete the course, the answers will be in the form of written work in pdf or word. Students can write the answers in their own time. Each answer needs to be 200 words (1 Page). Once the answers are submitted, the tutor will check and assess the work.
