The [course_title] course is devoted to the organic matter cycling in the oceans and marine sediments from the molecular-level perspective. You will learn about Organic matter (C, N, P) composition, reactivity and budgets within, and fluxes through, major ocean reservoirs; microbial recycling pathways for organic matter; models of organic matter degradation and preservation. Other topics included in the course are the role of anoxia in organic matter burial; relationships between dissolved and particulate (sinking and suspended) organic matter; methods for characterisation of sedimentary organic matter; and application of biological markers as tools in oceanography.
Assessment
This course does not involve any written exams. Students need to answer 5 assignment questions to complete the course, the answers will be in the form of written work in pdf or word. Students can write the answers in their own time. Each answer needs to be 200 words (1 Page). Once the answers are submitted, the tutor will check and assess the work.
