The [course_title] course teaches the basics of digital signal processing with a special focus on problems in biomedical research and clinical medicine.
You will learn the principles and algorithms for processing both deterministic and random signals. The course is divided into two sections: one deals with the theory while other includes lab practice. In the theory part, you will learn Biomedical Signals and Images, Fundamentals of Deterministic Signal and Image Processing, Probability and Random Signals, Image Segmentation and Registration. In the Biomedical Signals and Images section, you will learn about ECG, speech coding, surgical applications, etc. Other areas discussed in the course are data acquisition, imaging, filtering, coding, feature extraction, and modelling. Apart from these, you will learn how to process physiological data, with examples from cardiology, speech processing, and medical imaging.
Assessment
This course does not involve any written exams. Students need to answer 5 assignment questions to complete the course, the answers will be in the form of written work in pdf or word. Students can write the answers in their own time. Each answer needs to be 200 words (1 Page). Once the answers are submitted, the tutor will check and assess the work.
